"Martha Ackmann came to my Communications class
and engaged students in a tranformative manner.
My students are mostly first-generation college
enrollees who could understand the challenge
each Mercury 13 woman faced: going
into unknown territory, full of hope and fear,
against staggering odds. Ms. Ackmann connected
with the students as she talked about NASA, but
she also shared with them the message that a
passion for a subject opens doors for people.
She impressed them with her belief that people
who strive reach heights beyond even their own
expectations."
